A predictor of atheroma progression in patients achieving very low levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol

An aggressive reduction in low-density lipopro- tein cholesterol (LDL-C) with statin therapy pro- duces regression [1-3] or stabilization [4] of coronary artery plaques and reduces the risk of coronary events [5]. Recent clinical trials have demonstrated an incremental benefit of inten- sive lipid-lowering therapy compared with mod- erate lipid-lowering therapy using statins [6, 7], and aggressive reduction in LDL-C levels has been recommended [8].
